Just got home from getting the Christmas tree. We drove out to Greenbluff and all the tree farms were closed. To be more precise their signs all said, "Open", but upon closer inspection they were closed. With a car full of distraught children, whose hopes for a jolly Christmas were suddenly endangered, we cruised the strip malls on Division and found one of the parking lot variety tree farms. As we wandered the asphalt forest floor Lily asked innocently, "Are they already cut?" I broke the news to her gently and we picked a nice looking noble fir. I asked him where the trees were from. He said, "Oregon." Under my breath I said, "Forget it." and told him to load it onto the car. So much for a locally grown tree this year. The tree goes on our medical necessity exception list - dad's mental health sub-category.
Of course I could have called ahead and I would have found out they are open from 9am to 4pm daily. Another good place to get a Christmas tree this year is Hutton Settlement, where they are open Thursdays and Fridays from 4-8pm and Saturdays and Sundays frm 10am to 8pm. I'm not sure where Hutton get's their trees but the proceeds go to a great cause.
