Winter Farmers' Markets in Spokane Area

Here's the scoop from yesterday's Spokesman Review on winter markets in the Spokane area. I dropped by the Millwood Market yesterday and it was bustling with activity. You'll have to try the Arabesque Cinnamon loaf.

Winter farmers' markets are open in Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and Millwood:

•The Millwood Farmers' Market has morphed into a winter market as well, moving indoors to 8919 E. Euclid Ave. Locally raised chicken, beef, winter vegetables, artisan breads and pastries, and local crafts are on the menu. Themarket is held at the Crossing Youth Center, just east of the Millwood Presbyterian Church parking lot, from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.

•In downtown Spokane, the Indoor Farmers' Market in the lobby of the Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave., opens Thursday. Organic artisan breads and pastries, fruits and vegetables and free-range eggs and beef are sold at the market between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. There are also local artisans and crafters, with live music each week through April.

•The new Local Market CdA started last weekend, inside the Plaza Shops at 210 Sherman Ave.Vendors are selling kosher beef, lamb, chicken, wild caught salmon, fruits and vegetables, homemade bread and pasta, tofu, salsa, coffee, tea, honey, eggs and organic hummus.

Crafters are also selling handmade gifts. •The 2nd Saturday Sustainability Fair at Fresh Abundance is changing times and names. Organizers will launch the Roots Community Market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 14. The market will be held at Fresh Abundance's store at 2015 N. Division St., across from Mountain Gear. Local farmers, producers, artists and others will be there with their wares.
